Aitpas v1.0 · Theme & Plugin Guide

Aitpas Documentation

Everything you need to install, configure, and build with Aitpas — the AI Tools Directory & Prompt Library WordPress theme. This guide covers setup, the Theme Builder, directory content types, and every bundled integration, in order.

01 Introduction

Aitpas is an Elementor-based WordPress theme purpose-built for AI directories — AI tools, prompt libraries, agent marketplaces, and MCP server catalogs. It ships with six dedicated content types, a custom Theme Builder, and a built-in Elementor widget library, so you're not stitching together generic plugins to make a directory site work.

This documentation assumes no prior Elementor or WordPress admin experience. Follow the sections in order the first time you set up the theme — later sections (Theme Builder, widgets, integrations) assume the theme and plugins are already installed and demo content is imported.

New to WordPress? Wherever this guide references a core WordPress screen (Menus, Widgets, Permalinks, Users), it links out to the official WordPress Codex for that screen — bookmark it as a general reference alongside this document.

02 System Requirements

RequirementMinimumRecommended
WordPress6.0Latest version
PHP7.48.1 or higher
MySQL5.68.0 / MariaDB 10.3+
PHP Memory Limit128MB256MB or higher
max_execution_time60s300s (needed for demo import)

Check your current environment under Tools → Site Health → Info before installing. If your host's PHP memory limit is below 128MB, raise it in wp-config.php with define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M'); or ask your host to increase it.

03 Installing Aitpas

If you're setting up WordPress itself for the first time, see the Codex's Installing WordPress guide first. Once WordPress is running:

  1. Download the theme packageLog in to your account, go to Downloads, and download aitpas.zip — not the full package with documentation and plugins, just the installable theme file.
  2. Upload via the dashboardGo to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme, choose aitpas.zip, and click Install Now.
  3. Activate the themeClick Activate once the upload finishes. You'll immediately see a notice at the top of the dashboard listing required and recommended plugins — don't dismiss it yet.
  4. Alternative: FTP uploadIf the ZIP is too large for your host's upload limit, unzip it locally and upload the resulting aitpas folder to /wp-content/themes/ via FTP/SFTP, then activate it from the Themes screen.
Don't activate the theme without also installing the required plugins. Directory content types, the Theme Builder, and every custom widget come from the bundled plugins — the theme alone only provides the base design.

04 Required & Bundled Plugins

After activating the theme, use the plugin installer notice (or go to Appearance → Install Plugins) to install and activate everything in one pass.

  1. Open the installerFrom the admin notice, click "Begin installing plugins," or go to Appearance → Install Plugins directly.
  2. Select all required pluginsTick each plugin marked Required, then choose Install from the bulk actions dropdown and click Apply.
  3. ActivateOnce installed, select them again and choose Activate from the bulk actions dropdown.
  4. Repeat for optional pluginsOnly install Contact Form 7, Mailchimp, or WooCommerce if you actually need that feature — they're not required for the directory itself to work.

05 One Click Demo Import

Importing demo content gives you a fully populated directory — sample tools, prompts, agents, MCP servers, menus, and homepage — that you then edit down to your own content, instead of starting from a blank site.

  1. Confirm One Click Demo Import is activeCheck Plugins → Installed Plugins — it must be installed and activated.
  2. Open the importerGo to Appearance → Import Demo Data.
  3. Choose your demoSelect the Aitpas demo from the list. If more than one demo variant is available, preview each before choosing.
  4. Start the importClick Import Demo Data and leave the tab open. This imports content, images, menus, widgets, and the homepage in the background — do not close or refresh the tab.
  5. Wait for the success messageLarger demos with full directory content can take several minutes depending on your host. A green success message confirms completion.
  6. Set your homepageGo to Settings → Reading and confirm "A static page" is selected with the imported homepage chosen. See the Codex's Creating a Static Front Page guide if this isn't already set.
Import order matters if you're combining demos. Import your primary homepage demo first, then use Elementor's template library to individually import inner pages or sections from other demo variants — don't run the full one-click importer twice on the same site.

06 Import Troubleshooting

SymptomFix
Import stalls or times outRaise max_execution_time and memory_limit in php.ini, or ask your host to raise them temporarily during import.
Images missing after importConfirm your host allows outbound requests (some restrict allow_url_fopen); re-run the import, or import content without media and upload images manually.
Homepage looks unstyledGo to Elementor → Tools → Regenerate CSS and clear any caching plugin.
Menus not showingCheck Appearance → Menus — confirm the imported menu is assigned to the correct theme location.

07 What Is the Theme Builder

The Theme Builder lets you design the parts of your site that repeat everywhere — headers, footers, archive layouts, single post layouts, and popups — visually in Elementor, then control exactly where each one appears using Display Conditions. You build it once and it applies site-wide, instead of rebuilding a header inside every page.

Find it at Aitpas → Theme Builder in your admin sidebar. Each template you create there has a Type (Header, Footer, Single, Archive, Popup) and one or more Display Conditions attached to it.

09 Archive Templates

Archive templates control how listing/grid pages look for each content type — for example, the grid of cards shown on your AI Tools archive or a specific tools category page.

  1. Add a new templateIn Aitpas → Theme Builder → Add New, set Type to Archive.
  2. Build the loopUse the Archive/Posts widget to define how each entry's card looks — image, title, meta fields, category tag — Elementor repeats this card automatically for every item in the archive.
  3. Add filtering (optional)Drop in the Filter widget above the archive loop to let visitors filter by category, pricing model, or other taxonomy.
  4. Set the conditionScope the template to one content type (e.g. "Archive → AI Prompts") or apply it to all directory archives at once.

10 Single Templates

Single templates define the layout for one individual entry — a single AI tool profile, a single prompt, a single agent page.

  1. Add a new templateSet Type to Single in the Theme Builder.
  2. Pull in dynamic fieldsUse Elementor's dynamic tags to bind each field (title, featured image, pricing, description, meta fields defined in the content type) directly into your layout — this keeps the template reusable across every entry of that type.
  3. Set the conditionScope it to the relevant content type, e.g. "Singular → AI Agents." Create one single template per content type you want a distinct layout for.
  4. Preview against a real entryUse the template preview dropdown to check the layout against an actual published entry before publishing the template itself.

11 Popup Builder

  1. Create a popup templateSet Type to Popup in the Theme Builder and design it like any other Elementor template — newsletter sign-ups, submission CTAs, or announcements all work well here.
  2. Set the triggerIn the popup's settings, choose what opens it — page load, scroll position, exit intent, or a click on a specific element.
  3. Set targetingUse Display Conditions the same way as headers and footers to control which pages the popup can appear on.
  4. Publish and testPublish, then load the targeted page in a private/incognito window to confirm the trigger and timing feel right.

12 Display Conditions Reference

Every Theme Builder template — header, footer, archive, single, or popup — uses the same condition system:

ConditionApplies To
Entire SiteEvery page, unless overridden by a more specific template
Singular → [Content Type]Every individual entry of that content type (e.g. every single AI Tool)
Archive → [Content Type]The main listing/archive page for that content type
Taxonomy → [Category]A specific category or taxonomy term's archive page
Specific PageOne exact page, chosen by name

When two templates could both match the same page, the more specific condition wins — a "Singular → AI Tools" header overrides an "Entire Site" header on tool pages only.

13 Content Types Overview

Aitpas organizes your directory into six dedicated content types instead of one generic post type. Each has its own fields, archive, and single template.

AI Tools

Individual AI tools and apps — pricing, category, and use case fields.

AI Prompts

Reusable prompts organized by category, model, and use case.

AI Agents

Autonomous agents and agent frameworks with their own profile fields.

MCP Servers

Model Context Protocol servers, categorized by capability.

AI Services

Service offerings — consulting, integration, custom builds.

Portfolio (AI Works)

Case studies and completed project write-ups.

14 Adding a New Entry

The process is the same across all six content types — this example uses AI Tools.

  1. Open the content typeGo to AI Tools → Add New in the admin sidebar.
  2. Add the title and descriptionEnter the tool's name as the title, and use the content area or Elementor for a longer description.
  3. Fill in the meta fieldsScroll to the meta box below the editor — pricing model, website link, category, and any other fields defined for that content type.
  4. Set the featured imageAdd a featured image in the sidebar panel — this is what displays on archive/card layouts.
  5. Assign categoriesUse the taxonomy panel in the sidebar to assign the entry to one or more categories.
  6. PublishClick Publish. The entry immediately appears on the relevant archive and browse pages using your Theme Builder templates.

15 Categories & Taxonomies

Each content type has its own independent category taxonomy — AI Tools categories are separate from AI Prompts categories, and so on, so your navigation stays clean per content type.

  1. Open the taxonomy screenGo to AI Tools → Categories (or the equivalent for another content type).
  2. Add a categoryEnter a name and slug, add a description if you want it to show on the category archive, and click Add.
  3. Reassign or reorderEdit any entry and change its assigned categories from the taxonomy panel — no need to leave the entry editor.

16 The Browse / Filter Page

Each content type includes a dedicated "browse" page (for example the AI Tools browse page) built with the Filterable Grid widget — a faceted view separate from the plain archive, letting visitors filter by category, pricing, or other fields without leaving the page.

  1. Edit with ElementorOpen the Browse page from Pages and click Edit with Elementor.
  2. Configure the sourceSelect the browse widget, and in the Content tab choose which content type and taxonomy it pulls from.
  3. Configure filtersChoose which fields are filterable (category, pricing model, etc.) — each becomes a clickable filter control above the grid.
  4. Style the cardsUse the Style tab to adjust card layout, spacing, and columns per breakpoint.

17 Using Aitpas Widgets

All custom widgets appear in the Elementor editor's left panel under the "Aitpas" widget category — search for them directly by name in the widget search box.

  1. Drag the widget onto the canvasOpen any page with Elementor, search the widget panel, and drag your widget into a section.
  2. Configure the Content tabSet the data source, number of items, and any content-specific options.
  3. Configure the Style tabAdjust colors, spacing, typography, and card design — all Aitpas widgets follow the theme's CSS variable system, so changes here stay consistent with your global design.
  4. Configure the Advanced tabSet responsive visibility, motion effects, and custom CSS classes if needed — same as any native Elementor widget.

Key Widgets

WidgetUse
Advanced MenuPrimary navigation with dropdown and mega-menu support
Filterable GridFaceted browse/filter grid for any content type
Archive / Posts LoopCard-based loop for archive template building
Entry CardSingle-item card used inside grids and loops
Taxonomy ListCategory/tag listing block, often used on the Categories page

18 Theme Options & Customizer

Global settings — site identity, color tokens, typography, and layout defaults — live in Appearance → Customize. Elementor's own Site Settings (accessible from inside the editor) control global colors and fonts used by every widget.

  • Site Identity — logo, site title, and favicon. See the Codex's Customize Screen guide for the general panel layout.
  • Colors — global palette tokens used across widgets and templates.
  • Typography — heading and body font assignments.
  • Layout — container width, spacing scale, and card corner radius defaults.
Changes made in Elementor's Site Settings apply globally and take priority over individual widget defaults — set your palette and fonts there first, then fine-tune per widget only where needed.

20 WooCommerce (Paid Listings)

WooCommerce is optional and only needed if you plan to charge for listings, featured placements, or premium prompts.

  1. Install and run the setup wizardInstall WooCommerce, activate it, and complete the setup wizard for store address, currency, and payment methods.
  2. Connect a product to a listingCreate a WooCommerce product for the paid tier (e.g. "Featured Tool Placement") and link it to the entry you want to monetize, following your workflow of choice — a manual link, or a custom field if you've configured one.
  3. Style checkout pagesWooCommerce templates inherit Aitpas's design tokens automatically; use Elementor's WooCommerce Builder (if available in your Elementor version) for further customization of cart and checkout pages.

21 Contact Form 7

  1. Create or edit the formGo to Contact → Contact Forms, edit the default form or add a new one, and adjust the fields.
  2. Copy the shortcodeCopy the shortcode shown at the top of the form editor, e.g. [contact-form-7 id="123" title="Contact form"].
  3. Embed itOn your Contact page, add Elementor's Shortcode widget and paste the shortcode in — it inherits Aitpas's form field styling automatically.
  4. Set the recipient emailIn the form's Mail tab, confirm the "To" address is correct before publishing.

22 Mailchimp for WordPress

  1. Connect your accountGo to Mailchimp for WP → Mailchimp and paste in your Mailchimp API key.
  2. Create a sign-up formGo to the Forms tab, select your audience, and customize the fields.
  3. Embed the formUse Elementor's Shortcode widget with [mc4wp_form] anywhere you want a newsletter sign-up — a footer template is a common spot.

23 Translation & Language

Aitpas ships translation-ready with a .pot file in the theme's /languages/ folder.

  1. Open the .pot fileUse a tool like Poedit or the Loco Translate plugin to open aitpas.pot.
  2. Translate your stringsTranslate each string and save as a .po/.mo pair named for your locale (e.g. aitpas-fr_FR.mo).
  3. Set your site languageGo to Settings → General → Site Language and choose your locale — see the Codex's Installing WordPress in Your Language for locale setup.

25 Updating the Theme

  1. Back up firstAlways back up your database and files before updating, especially if you've made direct edits to theme files.
  2. Download the new versionDownload the latest aitpas.zip from your Downloads page.
  3. Replace via FTP or a child themeIf you haven't customized core theme files, deactivate the old theme, delete it, and upload the new ZIP the same way as the original install. If you have made direct edits, move them into a child theme first so they survive the update.
  4. Update bundled pluginsCheck Plugins → Installed Plugins for available updates to Aitpas Core, Sifency AI Directory, and Sifency Admin Options, and update them the same day as the theme.

26 FAQ & Troubleshooting

The Theme Builder templates aren't showing on the front end

Check the template's Display Conditions — an unpublished template or a condition that doesn't match any real page won't render. Also clear any caching plugin after publishing a template.

A content type's archive page is blank

Go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save to flush rewrite rules, then confirm at least one entry of that content type is published (not draft).

Widgets aren't appearing in the Elementor panel

Confirm Aitpas Core, Sifency AI Directory, and Sifency Admin Options are all active — the widget library depends on all three.

The site looks unstyled after a plugin update

Go to Elementor → Tools → Regenerate CSS and clear any caching or CDN cache.
